Understanding leads
to peace.
Psalm 119:133 is a prayer of trust: ‘Order my steps in thy word.’ Peace comes from knowing that each step is not only ordered, but directed, supported, and protected by the Most High. We do not have to carry the full weight of finding our own way. He is responsible for the guiding, the leading, and the directing. As we place our lives beneath the authority of His Word, we can rest in the assurance that our path is held by Him and remain open to the wondrous things only the spiritual can perceive and enjoy. This is the peace of God that surpasses all understanding: a peace not dependent upon seeing the whole path, but upon knowing Who leads us.
A practice for today
Rest in His direction
Name the step that is troubling your heart. Place it before the Most High and pray Psalm 119:133 over it. Then release the need to control the entire path. Delight yourself in the Lord, trust Him with the desires of your heart, and receive the peace of knowing that He is leading you.
The lesson
The Word does not light every mile.
It makes the next step faithful.
Psalm 119:105 establishes the source: God’s Word is the lamp and the light. Psalm 119:130 reveals its work: His Word enters and gives understanding. Psalm 119:133 brings us into peace: the Most High orders our steps, directs our way, supports us as we walk, and protects the life entrusted to Him. We delight ourselves in the Lord and trust Him with the desires of our hearts, as Psalm 37:4 declares. Then the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guards our hearts and minds, as Philippians 4:7 promises. The movement is from revelation, to understanding, to the peace of being led by Him.
